Though I have not suffered from negative religious upbringing, like many folks, this author did. He found healing from his past fearful beliefs by using the runes in a positive and meditative way as symbolic guideposts to the Divine Mind which is perfect and good.This book contains much reassurance for those indoctrinated in fear, teaching the basics of positive thinking (thoughts and beliefs create reality), how to change these via affirmations, and a rather deep, patient method of reprogramming the subconscious using the runes as symbols to focus upon.
I very much like and appreciate his positive slant on using the runes, whose occasionally negative interpretation can sometimes be alarming and upsetting to some. I intend to incorporate his interpretations into my own use of the runes for this reason.
Part of his technique is to expose your mind to the idea embodied in a rune, after studying it, by drawing it, or otherwise exposing your mind to it in your environment, or visualizing it. (As an aside, the website [...] he offers for a nominal price a wallpaper for your computer or device where you can choose a rune to put up to focus your intentions and beliefs, so that you see it every time you use your computer or phone. Sadly none fit the iPad yet!!)
As others have mentioned, the Table of Contents allows easy navigation to an interpretive meaning of any particular rune. There is no reading function, however, which was implied in another review, so I wanted to clarify that. You cannot do a reading with this book without a rune set of some sort, but he tells of an easy option to make your own for no cost but your time.
There is a section which gives Christian biblical quotes to explain some of the new thought ideas. It is easy enough to skip this part if you don't need it. It is necessary for some, I am sure!
All in all it is a very positive and useful book with ideas that have helped to focus my own practice of using symbols to focus and direct thought and thus manifestation.
I would love to see an iPad/iPhone app that could give readings with his interpretations, that could help study and give the wallpaper function of displaying a chosen rune.

So far the book is good, I'm still reading the beginning of it, but I like what it has to say so far, it makes sense describing how people feel about the runes and how they know nothing of them and assume they are the devils work. I like that it discusses the mind and how to work with it to "master" it yourself.
