From the very first chapter, you are hooked when you read about the confessions of an idea killer. Kevin highlights just how easy it easy to find enough reasons not to pursue your idea - for the rest of the book he proves why and how you can make that breakthrough from passion and an ordinary idea to a profitable business. He draws on best practice from around the world with his in depth interviews with "xceptional companies" as he describes them - Outfit7 the creators of Talking Tom, Dwolla who will take credit cards out of our pockets forever, Balsamiq, Globant and others. We see how they dealt with a subject most books don't cover, but we entrepreneurs are challenged by - fear, and fear of failure. Drawing on his own background in as he says "breaking sales records" he shows in an attention deficit society, a focus on delivering quality attention is the key to customer loyalty and an engaged workforce. On a more serious but amusing level it is hard to believe a goldfish has a better attention span than a human being! This is an xceptional inspiring book about xceptional inspiring people. Kevin has tapped in to a mindset which can inspire anybody to suceed in many aspects of their lives by understanding committing and doing. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever though about doing incredible things and maybe need to understand a little more about what's required to be a an xceptional performer. Kevins writing style is clear and succinct and will engage you from the off! Enjoy the journey MC
Kevin has written a number of really good books. Almost can't go wrong by picking one of his.
I Read Kevin Kelly's earlier best seller 'How When You Don't Know How' when I started my first company and I have bought many copies for friends over the years as I consider it to be one of the most accessible and effective books in the self development market - so I was looking forward to reading 'Do!' having heard great reviews and it has certainly lived up to expectations. Again, this book is very accessible and the emphasis on excellent execution rather than waiting for the next brilliant idea, is a very empowering approach. The sections on friendships / relationships and magnetic attraction certainly resonate with me. I can highly recommend this book. The only downside is that I couldn't find it available as an audiobook.
Do! shows the results of global research, finding what was behind the success of a wide range of business, and not the usual suspects either.
He calls it "xceptional execution"--more important than the killer idea, the meticulous business plan or deep pocketed funders.
The book reads easy, steers clear of jargon and is unencumbered with pointless graphics.
Was lucky to see Kevin speak at a big NYC event last month, where he built off the themes of the book, engaging the largely small business, entrepreneur, sales oriented audience in a way they had never experienced before.
So grab the book and go hear him give a keynote address!
Great book with numerous case studies to help really understand the nuances around what it takes to achieve new business success today.
The book is based on solid research and I especially appreciate the global perspective Kevin brings to this book. There aren't enough books that offer this broad and extensive perspective along with a variety of examples that thoroughly explain how his strategies apply.
Simply and remarkable stories from entrepreneurs that are doing the remarkable because of xception execution.
Do matters more than anything else in business. If you're an entrepreneur, you should definitely read this book because you can see it's possible even if you don't have it all figured out.

Not only does the author trawl through the most recent research of what makes a business successful, he integrates this knowledge with interviews from real entrepreneurs who are making a difference. Some of the businesses are familiar names. Others are not. However, a common thread emerging from each entrepreneur is their sense of passion which drives them to enter a market – sometimes with little background knowledge or a formal business plan, yet managing to compete at the highest level. I got a few things from this book. One is that it forces me to think differently about how I operate my own business. Secondly, it turns upside down commonly held beliefs of conservative banks and academia who despite claiming to know about business have little practical knowledge or understanding of what drives a business and more importantly what drives the entrepreneur.
